Frequently asked questions

What is Bakuchiol and how does it differ from Bidens Pilosa?
Both are plant-derived retinol alternatives, but they work through different mechanisms. Bakuchiol comes from the Psoralea Corylifolia plant and originates from the Ayurvedic tradition of India. It has been scientifically validated in independent dermatological studies (including a significant study in the British Journal of Dermatology in 2019) as comparable to retinol. Bidens Pilosa is a newer ingredient, mainly tested in manufacturer-sponsored studies. Both work without causing UV sensitivity.
What is the difference between this oil serum and your other serums?
This is a 100% oil-based formula (fat-based), whereas our other serums are water-based. Oil serums are richer and more nourishing, ideal for dry skin seeking intensive nourishment. Water-based serums are lighter and contain more hyaluronic acid for hydration. For optimal results: first use a water-based product (such as our Boost Gel or Hydrating Toner), then follow with this oil serum as the final step.
Does Bakuchiol cause irritation as retinol sometimes does?
No, this is precisely one of the major advantages of Bakuchiol. In the aforementioned studies, Bakuchiol showed comparable anti-aging results to retinol, but with significantly less irritation and flaking. Additionally, Bakuchiol does not cause increased sun sensitivity, so this product can also be used during the day. However, always perform a patch test first when using it for the first time.
Does this product contain allergens?
The product is nut-free — the only retinol alternative in our collection without nuts. However, it does contain rosehip oil (Rosa Canina), which is in the same family as stone fruits like apricot and peach. We advise people with a stone fruit allergy to seek medical advice first or perform a patch test. Furthermore, it contains natural essential oils — for those who react strongly to fragrance ingredients, our Sensitive Overnight Cream is a better alternative.
Can I combine this with classic retinol?
Not recommended at the same time — that increases the chance of irritation without clear benefits. Research does suggest that alternating can work: for example, classic retinol on some evenings, and this Bakuchiol serum on other evenings. Many people who suffer from retinol irritation switch completely to Bakuchiol as a gentler alternative with comparable results.
Is this suitable for men?
Absolutely. The rich oil texture and plant-based formula are not skin type- or gender-specific. Men with dry skin particularly appreciate the direct nourishment without having to use a cream. 3 drops in the evening as the sole evening care is sufficient for many men.
