What is Alpha-Arbutin and how does it work?
Alpha-Arbutin is a natural derivative of bearberry extract and is among the most thoroughly researched ingredients for hyperpigmentation in cosmetics. It works by inhibiting tyrosinase—the enzyme responsible for melanin production in the skin. By reducing melanin production, existing spots gradually fade, and new pigment formation is prevented. Alpha-Arbutin is gentler than hydroquinone (the medical standard) and can be used safely long-term.
What exactly does the Pigment Perfecting Serum do?
This serum reduces the visibility of pigment spots (sun spots, post-acne pigmentation, melasma) and helps to even out skin tone. The combination of Alpha-Arbutin (reduces melanin production), Vitamin C (antioxidant and mild pigment-reducing effect), and Lactic Acid (mild exfoliation) provides a multi-pronged approach. Gradually, the complexion becomes more radiant and even.
Can this replace a moisturizer?
No. This serum hydrates but lacks the occlusive layer of a cream that retains moisture in the skin. Always use a moisturizer after this serum—for optimal results, our Niacinamide Gel Moisturizer, which also works to even out skin tone.
Can I use this during the day and in the evening?
Yes, both. In the morning, combine with your SPF for maximum protection and prevention of new pigment spots. In the evening, when the skin is in recovery mode. Important: Alpha-Arbutin and Lactic Acid make the skin slightly more UV-sensitive; daily SPF use is not optional but essential for your results.
How quickly will I see results?
Pigment reduction is a gradual process. The first improvements (more even complexion, glow) are often visible after 4 weeks. For visible reduction of existing spots: 8 to 12 weeks of consistent daily use. Patience works; drastically faster results would mean your formula is too aggressive and damages your skin barrier.
Is this suitable for sensitive skin?
The product contains a distinct fragrance with natural essential oils (lemon, patchouli, juniper, cedar, peppermint) and EU allergens. For very reactive skin or a confirmed perfume allergy, you might prefer our Targeted Dark Spot Care for local spot treatment. If in doubt, do a patch test on the inside of the arm.
